Evaluation Of The Outcome Of Pregnancy Associated with Uterine Myomas; Retrospective Study

Abstract

Background: The presence of myomas in particular of myomas that deform the uterine cavity and larger intramural myomas associated with an increased risk of spontaneous abortion, fetal mal presentation, placenta previa, premature birth, caesarean section, and post partum hemorrhage and placental abruption. Although fibroids may significantly affect pregnancy outcome.

Aim: Evaluation the outcome of pregnancy in pregnant women who have uterine myomas.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted at Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University, Egypt on women who admitted to emergency unit at the last 3 years from (January 2020 to January 2023), and diagnosed with fibroid with pregnancy , case were identified from a perinatal database at Zagazig university Hospitals data was collected retrospectively from files of patients.

Results: Pre-term labour (PTL), postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), antepartum haemorrhage (APH), premature rupture of the membranes (PROM), blood transfusion, Birth weight , abortion and mal presentations were significantly positive correlated fibroid size , number , submucous and fundal fibroid.

Conclusion: We concluded that myomas, especially those that deform the uterine cavity and bigger intramural myomas, are linked to spontaneous abortion, preterm birth, placental abruption, placenta Previa, fetal malpresentation, caesarean section, and postpartum hemorrhage.
