Abstract

Osteoarthritis(OA) is a degenerative painful disease that is commonly affected knee joints. medical treatment, steroid injections can be used but with limited effect. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a treatment modality that stimulates the natural healing process ,as it contain multiple growth factors and had many advantages. Aim of the work : compare the effectivenss and duration of combining PRP with hyaluronic acid versus PRP alone in relieving pain with KOA.
Patient and method : After approval of our ethical committee , 100 patients were referred to pain clinic unit at Zagazig university hospital they were clinically and radiologically diagnosed with KOA grade 3 according to the Kellgren-Lawrence classification between January 2018 to January 2020 , patients were divided into two groups; ( I) :50 patients injected by intra-articular (PRP) and hyaluronic acid( HA), ( II) :50 patients injected by intra-articular PRP only. patients were evaluated using the Knee Society Scoring System (KSS) and the Visual Analog Score (VAS) scoring system before treatment and at one month, three , six, twelve and eighteen months after treatment.
