Pattern of Nutritional Status in Children with Congenital Heart Disease: In Sharkia governorate

Abstract

Objective: To asses pattern of mal nutrition incases with congenital heart disease, it's relation with insulin like growth factor 1(I.G.F.-1.)
Methods: The current study is a case-control study that was performed at pediatric cardiology unit of pediatric department at Zagazig university hospital in Sharkia Governorate. This study was conducted on 80cases and cases.
Results: Sample size was calculated to be 80 divided into 40 in each group. Assuming that wasting percent as regard pattern of malnutrition incases with congenital heart disease was 10%, 39% respectively. Sample size was calculated using EPI Info program with confidence level 95%, power 80%.
Conclusion: Our study further pinpoint that malnutrition is very common incases with congenital heart disease than healthy cases. Malnutrition in C.H.D. predicted by the presence of low hemoglobin level, low arterial oxygen saturation, total iron, ferritin level, total protein level ,I.G.F.I
