Abstract

Objectives: To determine the cytokine storm profile in patients with COVID-19 infection in relation to the disease severity.
Methods: Serum levels of TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-6 and IL-1β were measured by ELISA method and IL-1RII, TNFR1 and TNFR2 gene expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were done using real time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method in a total of 203 COVID-19 patients. The 1st group included 52 COVID-19 severe cases, the 2nd comprised 104 moderate cases and the 47 mild cases lied in the 3rd group.
Results: There was a significant association between degree of COVID-19 severity and IL6, TNF-α & IFN-γ serum levels (p < /p>
